Former Jharkhand CS Sajal Chakraborty convicted in fodder scam

Sent to judicial custody, court to pronounce quantum of sentence on November 21

Ranchi, Nov 14 (IANS) Former Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraborty was convicted in a fodder scam case on Tuesday by a Special CBI court here and remanded in judicial custody, a lawyer said.

Sajal Chakraborty was convicted in the multi-million dollar Animal Husbandry Department case, popularly known as fodder scam case, related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 crore from the Chaibasa treasury, the lawyer said.

The senior Indian Administrative Service officer was the Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) at that time but did nothing to prevent the fraudulent withdrawal of money, the prosecution had said.

He was also accused of accepting a laptop from fodder suppliers to remain silent over the fraudulent withdrawals from the treasury.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad appeared in CBI courts in Ranchi in two cases on Tuesday. He got his statement recorded in one case.
