Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren’s grandson cremated in native village Jilinggora, CM Hemant Soren attends last rites

Jamshedpur, Feb 26: Veer Soren, the grandson of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, was cremated on Thursday at Jilinggora village in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The funeral took place near the ancestral village of the Soren family and was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with several MLAs, MPs, party workers, and local residents.

Veer Soren had passed away in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday, February 24, while on a trip with friends. According to information shared by Manali Police, he had reached Manali on February 22 and was staying at a homestay in the Simsha area. On February 23, he visited tourist spots including Solang and Sethan with his friends.

On February 24, Veer reportedly returned to his room around 12:30 pm after an outing and complained of a severe headache. His friends ordered medicine online. After taking the medicine, he went to sleep. Around 2:30 pm, his friends heard a loud noise from his room. When they rushed inside, they found him lying unconscious on the floor.

He was immediately taken to Manali Civil Hospital in a private vehicle. Eyewitnesses said he began foaming at the mouth while being rushed to the hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival. The exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed.

His body was brought to Jilinggora village around noon on Thursday. As the mortal remains reached the village, a wave of grief swept through the area. Hundreds of villagers, relatives, well-wishers and supporters gathered to pay their final respects. The atmosphere was sombre as people offered prayers for the departed soul.

Before the cremation, Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited the Soren family residence to offer condolences. He met Champai Soren and other family members, expressing deep sorrow over the untimely demise. Several political leaders from across Jharkhand also attended the last rites to show solidarity with the bereaved family.

Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi also visited the ancestral village and paid her respects. She met Champai Soren and consoled the grieving family members. Calling the loss “extremely tragic,” she said the entire region shared the family’s grief and prayed for strength for them during this difficult time.

The sudden death of Veer Soren cast a shadow of sorrow across the region, with many expressing shock and sadness over the young life lost. (w/gsd)
