Jamshedpur: Forest department has launched a campaign for awareness among tribal people in a bid to minimize the number of killings during the annual ritual hunt festival Bishu Shikar Parv.
Department officials held a meeting with villagers of hamlets situated around the Dalma foothills on Tuesday at the forest department office at Mango and appealed to them not to kill animals.
Villagers were requested to give up bloodshed and instead celebrate the festival in a peaceful manner. Pamphlets with slogans on animal rights and need for protecting them were distributed among villagers.
Many representatives of tribal organizations were present during the meeting.
Forest officials said the awareness drive is launched every year before the tribal festival during which a large number of animals are killed with traditional weapons by the tribal community members.
