Jamshedpur, April 16: The forest division will be launching a drive to make people aware of not to kill animals during the upcoming Sendra festival of the tribals and ensure bloodless Sendra inside Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary. Sendra or Bishu Shikar is an annual tribal hunting festival.
Ranger RP Singh of Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary said that every year awareness programme is held before the festival where forest department officer, employees and Van Mitra visit the adivasi dominated areas and appeal the people not to hunt festival.
Village youths, members of the eco-development committee will assist the forest department in ensuring bloodless hunting.
According to him, tribals from Bengal, Odisha and some from Ghatshila and Dumaria come to Dalma to take part in this annual hunting festival.
It may be noted that every year police constables from East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan are deployed for preventing tribals from entering the Dalma Wildlife sanctuary with non-traditional weapons.
Moreover, divisional railway managers of Chakradharpur and Adra divisions are also asked to deploy magistrates to prevent tribals from boarding trains with weapons.
