Jamshedpur:Train services are bogged down in the biting cold wave and thick fog across the northern and eastern plains, making the lives of thousands of passengers miserable.
With mercury dipping every passing day, the scene at the Tatanagar railway station is getting quite depressing. Numerous passengers are facing trouble due to the delay in long-distance trains, thanks to the foggy weather conditions, and the situation is unchanged for the past few days in the North.
As many as four trains — New Delhi – Puri Neelanchal Express, New Delhi- Bhubaneshwar Sampark Kranti Express, Bhubaneshwar- New Delhi Rajdhani Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express is getting delayed at Tatanagar for the last two days.
The Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Puri Neelanchal Express, New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Sampark Kranti Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express reached Tatanagar are running behind schedule. These trains were running over two hours behind schedule while the other mail and express trains were reported to be running four to six hours behind their scheduled time.
The cold and fog in the north and in Jharkhand have sent train schedules haywire since Wednesday.
Rajdhani, which chugs into Tatanagar at 10.50am, was delayed by over two hours. Puri-bound Purushottam Superfast Express, which usually arrives at 8.30pm, too came to Tatanagar around 10.30pm.
Several other trains, including Jallianwala Bagh Express, Tata-Patna South Bihar Express and Tata-Chapra Express, have also been running late for the past few days
Station manager of Tatanagar , Awtar Singh said that they were taking necessary steps so that passengers do not face problems in getting refunds.
He also pointed out that the problem does not persist here but the delay takes place in Delhi and other destinations in the north. ” The passengers complained that due to delaying of trains they had to wait on platforms for long hours carrying luggage and children which add to their woes,” said he noted quoting a passenger of Neelanchal Express.
Meanwhile, information from the computerised reservation centre at Tatanagar revealed that more than 200 people have booked tickets on several long-distance trains for January. Concerned over the heavy rush of passengers, Chakradharpur division will request the Garden Reach headquarters of South Eastern Railway to provide additional coaches to accommodate the passengers.
