Jamshedpur: Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum, Anoop Birtharay, Monday said the district police were fully prepared to ensure strict compliance with the Model Code of Conduct and peaceful polling at all the 1885 booths across the district. He said the number of highly sensitive booths had dwindled to its half this election. However, the district police will not be taking any chance, he said.

Birtharay said there are five Naxalite-hit areas, namely Ghatsila, Galudih, MGM, Patamada and Bodam where special vigil will be kept during elections. Police visibility will be increased in these areas. Prohibitory order has been imposed in the entire district in view of elections. Action has also started under Section 107 of CRPC to tighten noose around criminals and anti-social elements, said the SSP, adding that 526 arms have been deposited so far by licence holders who number 1734 in the district.

The SSP said the district police had started a drive to arrest absconders of various pending criminal cases. All DSPs and other officers have been asked to ensure strict compliance of Model Code of Conduct in the district. Additional police force has been demanded for the elections. Wireless sets would be used at 36 remote booths where there is no mobile coverage. Around 80 per cent police personnel have been given training for elections. The department has set up 18 flying squads and as many static squads to keep an eye on trouble-mongers in the district, said the SSP.
