Jamshedpur: A flying squad of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee conducted a surprise inspection of Sakchi fish market and other commercial establishments across the city and confiscated polythene from 11 shops. A fine of Rs 6000 was slapped on the shop owners who had allegedly kept the plastic bags on their premises. A strict warning was issued to the shopkeepers against storing, using or distributing plastic bans as they are banned across Jharkhand.
The flying squad members also caught a hawker who supplied plastic bags to several shopkeepers. During inquiry, the hawker told the JNAC officials the names and addresses of several stockists and retailers of polythene bags.
JNAC special officer Sanjay Kuamr said stringent action would be taken against traders who were dealing in the stocking and distribution of banned plastic bags across the city. He said the drive against polythene would continue indefinitely all over the city.
