Dhanbad, Nov 21: Police detained five suspected youths during a late-night raid on two private lodges in Rangatand under Dhanbad police station area on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off that some unknown individuals had been staying there for the past two days and exhibiting suspicious behaviour, a police team reached the lodges, searched the rooms, and took all five into custody for questioning.
According to police sources, the purpose of their visit to Dhanbad remains unclear.
During the initial inquiry, some of them failed to produce valid identification documents and provided contradictory information about their backgrounds.
The detained individuals reportedly include youths from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Jehanabad and Gaya districts in Bihar, while two others had no ID proof at all.
Police have seized several mobile phones and documents during the search.
Investigators suspect the youths may have been planning criminal activities or could be linked to a larger network.
Verification of their Aadhaar details and physical addresses is underway to establish their identities.
It is learned that a group of eight youths had checked into two separate lodges in Rangatand.
Some of them were seen roaming the market with covered faces and lingering near shops, raising suspicion among shopkeepers.
After they noticed the same individuals behaving similarly the following day, they alerted the police, leading to the swift raid and detention.
