Five returned Palamau migrants test positive, Jharkhand Corona count touches 132

Ranchi, May 7: Five new COVID-19 cases were reported in Jharkhand today taking the state tally to 132. 41 patients have recovered from COVID-19 infection while 88 active cases are still in the state.

“All the positive cases are from Palamau district which includes four men between age group of 21-23 years and a 30 year old woman. They had returned from Chhattisgarh. 37 persons have been cured and discharged in the state while 3 persons have died due to COVID-19,” Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni said. Earlier Palamau had reported three cases and with addition of five new cases on Thursday the total active case in the district has reached 8. 

Palamau patients’ blood samples were tested at Itki TB Hospital in Ranchi on Thursday.   Of the five patients two belong to Manatu block of Palamau district, two are from Naudiha village while the woman patient is a resident of Patan village. All the five have returned from Chhattisgarh. Thursday also came as a relief for Bokaro where three patients who were admitted at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) have been discharged. Now Bokaro is Coronavirus free as nine of the total 10 Coronavirus positives have recovered while one COVID-19 patient has died.

Another patient from Simdega district also recovered from Corona on Thursday. Simdega also became Corona free with both the patients discharged. Earlier, Coronavirus positives in Hazaribagh, Dhanbad and Giridih have recovered.    

Out of the total 132 positive cases so far, 93 are from Ranchi, 10 from Bokaro, 8 from Palamau, four from Deoghar, three from Hazaribagh and Garhwa, two each from Dhanbad, Giridih, Jamtara, Simdega and Dumka.

One person from Godda has also tested positive for coronavirus.

Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far. The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.

Ranchi has been designated as �Red Zone� while nine other districts of Jharkhand are in the �Orange Zone� of novel coronavirus. The rest 14 districts are in the Green Zone.

The Centre has classified districts with high load of coronavirus cases or which have a high growth rate of the disease in the red zones, while those with considerably fewer cases of the respiratory infection fall in orange zones. Districts with no coronavirus cases are categorised as green zones.

Capital Ranchi which accounts for 93 out of a total of 132 Covid cases in Jharkhand is the only district to fall under red zone in the state.

The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel.
