Jamshedpur : The police on Thursday arrested five persons for robbing a 26-year-old youth Saurabh Biswas after stabbing him on Dimna Road under Olidih police station area on Wednesday afternoon. Resident of Sankosai, the victim was robbed while returning home in his company vehicle.
The police have arrested Bittu Prasad, Ravishankar Sahu, Shahbaz Ali, Saddam Alam and Afsar Hussain in connection to the incident.
Senior superintendent of police, Amol V Homkar said that Saurabh alias Somnath used to work as a salesman in the confectionary agency of Suraj Poddar and used to supply the confectionaries at the shops in Mango and Azadnagar. Ravishankar and Bittu conspired, while Sahbaz, Afsar and Sadam had executed the plan.
It may be recalled that a gang of three bike-borne criminals had intercepted confectionary-laden vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, and stabbed the salesman, Somnath, on his back.
Though the Dimna Road is a busy road linking steel city to the NH-33, the three criminals had fled the spot on the bike soon after committing the loot. The wounded salesman had subsequently been rushed to the MGM Medical College and Hospital by the police.
Homkar said as the accused Bittu was driving the vehicle slow, Somnath had suspicion that he must be involved in the loot and had expressed his suspicion before the investigating police.
“Acting on the tip off, the police picked up Bittu from his house on Tank Road in Olidih and interrogated. On being interrogated, the driver divulged that a youth Ravishankar had hatched the plan and had also convinced him to join the act of robbing the salesman by engaging three hired criminals,” said the senior SP.
According to the senior police officer, Shahbaz, Afsar and Saddam who were on the bike and they had looted the money after being asked by Ravishankar only.
According to police, all the five accused are in the age group of 18 to 22. They have been involved in several cases of crime.
Senior SP informed that the five accused were sent to judicial custody late in the afternoon today, adding that the police have recovered the knife used in the assault.
