Covid-19 cases rise to 82 in Jharkhand
Ranchi, April 26: Fifteen people tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday in Jharkhand, the highest single-day jump in the number cases yet, officials said. The fresh cases including 13 from Ranchi and 2 from Garhwa, took the total number of those tested positive to 82 in Jharkhand. Earlier, nine people were tested corona positive on April 8 while April 18 saw single day jump of corona patient to eight.
In Ranchi five nurse of Sadar Hospital, a sanitation worker, a Lowadih resident and six from Hindpiri have tested postive for Coronavirus. Other two cases have been reported from Garhwa.
Ranchi Sadar Hospital nurse who helped in the delivery of a Corona positive woman few days ago has also been tested positive.
Director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, D K Singh, of the total 242 samples tested during the day, 15 were detected positive for the infection. Thirteen people have been cured so far, while two patients have died. One person died after testing negative, due to comorbidity or other reasons, but before being discharged, according to the state health department. Medical tests samples of 2 patients from Dhanbad have also been found negative, which may be released once their third tests also comes negative.
Red Zone Ranchi has recorded 55 Corona positive cases while the COVID-19 cases in hotspot Hindpiri have jumped to 45 on Sunday from 39 on Saturday. State capital Ranchi’s Kantatoli, Bariatu and Lowadih have one corona positive case each, Gurunanak School’s sanitation worker who is a resident of Gaya in Bihar, two from Bedo and five nurse of Sadar hospital have been tested positive.
“Fifteen new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Jharkhand — five nurses of Sadar Hospital, a sanitation worker, a Lowadih resident and six from Hindpiri have tested postive for Coronavirus. Other two cases have been reported from Garhwa. Total number of cases in the state rises to 82 now,” said Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Jharkhand Health Secretary.
Out of the total 82 positive cases so far, 55 are from Ranchi, 10 from Bokaro, three from Hazaribagh, Palamau and Garhwa, two each from Dhanbad, Deoghar and Simdega.
One person each from Giridih and Koderma has also tested positive for coronavirus.
The 22-year-old Malaysian woman, the first coronavirus positive patient detected in the state on March 31 was discharged from RIMS on Friday after she recovered from the infection, according to Principal Secretary (Health) Nitin Madan Kulkarni. The woman was among the 17 foreign nationals found in a mosque at Hindpiri in Ranchi on March 29.
With the Coronavirus pandemic reaching Palamau district on Saturday, nine districts of Jharkhand have been affected from the deadly virus. Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Simdega, Garhwa and Deoghar are the other affected districts.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand High Court has asked the state government to submit a detailed plan of accommodating the stranded and migrant labourers who will return to the state after the Lockdown ends on 3rd of May.
