Five Naxal bunkers destroyed in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: In a major success against insurgent elements operating in West Singhbhum, a coordinated security operation carried out by joint forces led to the discovery and destruction of five militant bunkers in the forested regions under the jurisdiction of the Chotanagra and Jeraikela Police Stations in West Singhbhum district. The operation is part of an ongoing anti-insurgency drive that began earlier this month across sensitive regions.

On Thursday , during a meticulously planned sweep of the forest area near Kulpabru in the Jeraikela region, the joint forces successfully unearthed and destroyed five hidden bunkers believed to be used by left-wing extremists. These bunkers were reportedly equipped with makeshift supplies and provided strategic shelter for the insurgents in the dense terrain.

According to official sources, the operation was initiated on March 4, 2025, after receiving critical intelligence about the presence and movement of extremists in the forested areas surrounding Tonto and Toklo. The campaign has involved a wide range of security outfits, including the district police, Jharkhand Jaguar, CRPF battalions (26 BN, 60 BN, 134 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, 197 BN), and CoBRA units (203 BN and 209 BN).

The destruction of the bunkers was carried out without any casualties among the security personnel, indicating precise coordination and intelligence-led planning. The operation was supported by air and ground surveillance and is said to be a significant blow to the militants’ logistical and operational infrastructure in the region.

This large-scale mobilization of forces stems from a broader directive to neutralize insurgent activity and restore peace in vulnerable tribal belts of Jharkhand, which have historically been sporadic violence and guerrilla tactics by banned outfits.

Officials state that the operation is ongoing and that the search-and-destroy mission will continue in adjacent forest regions, with particular focus on intercepting supply lines and dismantling communication setups used by insurgent groups.

The operation reflects the state government’s resolve to strengthen internal security and eliminate threats to civilian safety and development. The local administration has reassured residents that additional security measures are in place to maintain law and order, and urged the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities.

“ As of now, no arrests have been made, and no weapons or ammunition were recovered during this particular phase. However, security forces believe the operation has disrupted the militants’ local command and weakened their hideout network significantly,” said an official.

He said: “These bunkers were part of a well-established network used by extremists to evade security patrols and coordinate violent activities. Their destruction sends a clear message that we are committed to rooting out extremism from every corner of Jharkhand.”
