Five hour road blockade in Jamshedpur over death of Golmuri man

Jamshedpur, Aug 21: A five hour long road blockade on the Sakchi-Golmuri Main Road ensued after the death of a man named Shamim who was allegedly picked up by the Burmamines police in connection with theft of goods from parked trucks in that police station area.

The youth, a resident of Golmuri was reportedly taken by the police in a serious condition initially to MGM Hospital and then to TMH for treatment and later handed over to his family members.

The youth died on Friday, August 21. Irate family members and local residents alleging police brutality as the cause of death of Shamim blocked the Sakchi-Golmuri Road demanding action against police personnel concerned in the youth�s death.

Police personnel tried to pacify the angry protestors until trhe Magistrate arrived and assured them of getting the autopsy conducted in his presence and after getting the report initiating action against the police personnel concerned.

The autopsy will be conducted on Saturday, August 22. The crowd, after getting the Magistrate�s assurance dispersed.

According to a report, the relatives of the deceased had demanded from the SSP action against the police officials responsible for inflicting grievous injuries on Shamim that led to his death.

The SSP reportedly directed a DSP to enquire into the matter. The DSP has handed his report to the SSP.

The report has clarified that the youth, Shamim had been beaten up.

The report also stated that that there were no FIRs or warrants issued against the deceased Shamim at any city police station.
