Fishes die in Jamshedpur’s Beldih lake, raises environmental alarm

Jamshedpur, April 8: A serious environmental concern has surfaced in the city after thousands of fish were found dead in Beldih lake at Dhatkidih on Wednesday.
This marks the second such alarming incident in recent days, following a similar mass fish death reported earlier in the Subernarekha river.
Local residents were the first to notice the disturbing scene early in the morning, spotting large numbers of dead fish floating along the pond’s edges.

Panic quickly spread across the area, prompting immediate notification to the authorities.
Responding swiftly, teams from the municipal administration and the fisheries department reached the site to assess the situation. Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have been caused by a sharp depletion of dissolved oxygen in the water or the presence of toxic substances.
As an emergency measure, officials have begun spraying chemicals in the pond to purify the water and prevent further loss of aquatic life. Water samples have been collected and sent to laboratories for detailed analysis.
The back-to-back incidents have intensified public concern over rising water pollution levels, with residents urging authorities to take stringent and timely action to prevent further ecological damage.
