First case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita lodged in Ranchi’s Kotwali PS

Ranchi, July 1: The first FIR under the Indian Code of Criminal Procedure was registered in Kotwali police station. Instead of IPC, the case has been registered under section 303 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Actually, after the theft incident in a medicine shop located in Upper Bazar of Kotwali police station area, the victim has registered a case. Earlier, a case was registered under section 379 of IPC on the theft incident, but now the case has been registered under section 303(2), 305(a) of BNS.

According to the information received from the police, when the operator Rashmi Kumari Chaudhary reached to open the medicine shop named Rashmi Enterprises located on Shraddhanand Road in Upper Bazar this morning, she found the lock of the shutter broken. When she looked at the shop’s cash box, about Rs 1.25 lakh kept in it was missing. Along with this, eight silver coins were also missing. She immediately reached Kotwali police station and investigated the matter.

Police registered a case under sections 303(2), 305(a) of the new criminal law BNS and started investigation.

From  July 1, three new criminal laws have come into force across the country.

Many laws have changed under this. Also, with its implementation, there will be extensive changes in the criminal justice system of India. From today, the laws of the British era have ended across the country. The three new laws are BNS, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
