Jamshedpur, March 9: Police have registered a case of alleged cheating against a jeweller and two of his family members in Mango after a customer accused them of taking money for making jewellery but failing to deliver the ornaments even after several years.
The complaint was lodged at Azadnagar police station by Shahina Begum, a resident of Old Purulia Road No. 3 under the Azadnagar police station area.
In her FIR, she has named Jitendra Verma, owner of Varsha Jewellers Works located near Mango Urdu School, along with his wife and sister-in-law as the accused.
According to the complainant, she had paid money to the jeweller for making ornaments. However, despite the passage of a long period, the jewellery was never delivered to her.
Sources said that around 15 days ago, Jitendra Verma came to open his shop after it had remained closed for a considerable period.
When local residents noticed him at the shop, several people gathered there and demanded either their jewellery or a refund of the money they had paid earlier for making ornaments.
It is alleged that many customers had deposited money with the jeweller for preparing ornaments but had not received them. Though Verma reportedly assured customers that the jewellery would be delivered, no one has received their ornaments so far.
The shop is located on Old Purulia Road under the Azadnagar police station limits in Mango.
According to the complaint, the alleged fraud spans a long period between September 25, 2014 and March 7, 2026.
Azadnagar police said an FIR has been registered and an investigation into the matter is underway. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
