Jamshedpur, June 14: Not wearing a face mask while stepping out of your house in Jamshedpur may land you in jail for up to two years, according to a warning issued by the Jamshedpur police. Moreover, people violating the order by not wearing masks when outdoors may also have to cough up fines between Rs 200 and Rs 1,000.
SSP Tamil Vanan today reiterated that no person will attend any meeting or step out without wearing masks. These masks may be standard masks available with the chemist or even homemade washable masks that can be reused after proper washing and disinfecting them.
An official said that Sections 269 & 270 IPC is being invoked against persons who maliciously do any act which is likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life. This may land a person for a jail term of two years.
As people continue to violate the Covid-19 guidelines, the police have launched an awareness-cum-enforcement drive for wearing masks in public places across the city.
The drive was aimed to create awareness on social distancing and wearing masks, in market places and busy areas. Pamphlets based on use of masks sensitised the commuters at Sakchi.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur police has also warned violators that FIRs under the Disaster Management Act and other sections of the IPC will be filed. An official informed that if anyone found roaming without a mask will be booked under section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC.
Persons over 65 years of age, persons with other diseases, pregnant women and children below ten years of age are advised to stay home except for essential services and health purposes.
The administration has urged people to cooperate with the district administration in preventing the possible spread of coronavirus. The communiqu� said that people should not move out of homes unnecessarily, they must use a mask, wash their hands regularly with soap or use a sanitizer. Do not spit here or there.
