Festive warning: Covid resurfaces in Jamshedpur, 9 positives reported

Jamshedpur, Oct 2: After a lull, Covid-19 cases are rising again in Jamshedpur. After registering a dip in daily infections for last couple of months, Jamshedpur on Saturday recorded a significant hike in new cases with the city witnessing 9 fresh Covid-19 cases including 7 from Mango and 1 each from Bistupur and Baridih during the last 24 hours. The death toll in Steel City remains at 1058.

With 9 new cases, the overall tally has climbed to 51,902.

More than 3953 were tested on the day including 388 RT-PCR, 2 TrueNat and 3563 RAT.

Data from the state government’s daily health bulletin showed that the Covid-19 test positivity is 3.24%. City also saw 2 people recover of the virus on Saturday.

The recovery rate has climbed to 97.94 % while the active cases have gone up to 19.

2 positive people recovered of the virus on Saturday pushing the recovery mark to 50825.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 602086 test per million in the district. 

As per the records of health department out of 3953 people who underwent Covid tests in East Singhbhum 9 were found positive.

The recovery rate in Jamshedpur is 97.94% while the mortality rate is 2.04%.

So far in Jamshedpur 1619111 samples have been collected out of which 1602753 have been tested and 1550851 have turned out to be negative.

Meanwhile, the district administration has asked all authorities to focus on adopting extra preparedness measures ahead of festive season and to ensure that the COVID protocol is in place in all shops and establishments and markets where people are likely to congregate.

With the threat of a third wave of COVID-19 looming large and sudden increase in cases, the department has focussed on conducting more tests and spreading awareness. The Government has ordered limited gathering and closed doors rituals. Idols will be only 5 feet tall. There would be no distribution of Bhog or fairs would be organised.

An official said that the department has focussed on conducting more tests. The focus is on such areas where positive cases have been found.  Though the apex body of Durga Puja committees in the city, Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti (JDPKS) has plans to make the festival a low key affair, the department is in no mood to take risk and has started planning before to ensure safety of the people.
