Father and son killed in road mishap at NH 33, two others injured

Jamshedpur, Sept. 18 : Tragedy struck at NH 33 as a father and son were killed, one of them on the spot and two others were injured as the scooter they were riding was hit by a truck near Balijuri on NH-33 under MGM police station area on Sunday afternoon. The mishap victim who was killed on the spot was identified as Narkat Karmakar , son of Mrinal Karmakar , a resident of Potka.

Two others Mrinal’s daughter Sephali (10) and his brother-in-law Subodh Lohar ( 35) were injured and were rushed to the MGM Medical College Hospital.

According to information, in the mishap seven-year-old boy was killed on the spot as the truck ran over him. The rest three injured were taken to the medical college hospital’s emergency where Mrinal succumbed to his injuries within an hour. The rest two are struggling for their life at the government hospital.

According to a relative, in all five persons, including three children were on the scooter which was being rode by Mrinal. The fifth rider, Sudhir (12) who was sitting on the extreme last, incidentally escaped unhurt.
�We are in state of shock. It was an ill-fated incident. Mrinal and his brother-in-law were returning home from Chandil after celebrating Vishwakarma Puja at a relative’s house in Chandil,” said a close relative of the mishap victims.

OC, MGM Police Station, Mohammed Tanzib Ansari said that the mishap took place as there was a head-on collision.
” As per our investigation the truck was coming from the Ghatshila end and scooter was from the Jamshedpur end. As the scooter rider tried to deviate from his route, he collided head on with the heavy vehicle,” said Ansari.
The OC said soon as soon as the mishap took place, the driver of the truck tried escaping from the spot. But local residents came to the rescue of the injured.

The officer-in-charge said they have seized both the truck as were as the driver and sent the child’s body to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.

Cases of road mishaps at the stretch on National Highway 33 have become a regular affair. During the past four months several mishaps have taken place in which 20 persons have died on the NH-33 a stretch of 20 kilometres. Earlier the traffic was slow as the road of the NH-33 was dotted with potholes, but ever since it was repaired, the vehicle owners tend to drive at high speed.
