Farmers workshop at Gamharia

Gamharia: A farmers workshop was organized at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra on the occasion of World Soil Day. The chief guest, District Agriculture Officer Vijay Kumar lit the traditional lamp to inaugurate the workshop.

In his address the District Agriculture Officer stated that harvest without the element of soil could not be even dreamt of. The gap between soil and harvest is bridged by the farmer.

Vijay Kumar said that soil conservation alone can provide good quality crops. He observed, But with time, soil conservation has become a big challenge for farmers. The fast changing environmental conditions all around the world have affected soil fertility adversely. I advise caution while using various types of fertilizers. Instead, farmers should use Vermi Compost as per the suggestions of scientists.

The chief of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and agricultural scientist Dr Arvind Mishra stressed on the importance of World Soil Day. He said that soil too has life. He said, The quality of soil the world over is diminishing at a fast pace. The irony is that in spite of this period of progress, a big question mark hangs over conservation of soil. The diminishing productivity of soil and soil quality has become a threat to nature.

Among others present during the inauguration of the workshop were Agriculture Scientist Dr SS Munda, Pankaj Seth, Dr Kanchan Mala, Dr Lily M Kispotta, Gurucharan Sahu and farmers.
