False ceiling at Tatanagar railway station crashes, Station manager initiatives probe

Jamshedpur : Panic gripped passengers as a portion of the false ceiling� on platform number 1 of Tatanagar railway station came crashing down late last evening. No one was injured in the incident.�

Railway sources revealed that  luckily there were no passengers at the spot where the false ceiling came crashing down. Passengers were panicked to hear the sound of the false ceiling.

“We were shocked to see the ceiling coming down. Luckily no passenger was injured,” said a snacks stall vendor on platform number 1.

According to information, over Rs 50 lakh was spent only for the false ceiling work on platform number 1. An outstation agency was hired for the job of the false ceiling work which was a part of beautification at the A1-category railway station.

Tatanagar station director H K Balmuchu said, ” It is early to comment as to how the mishap happened. A probe has been initiated. Things will be clear in the probe report.”

The Tatanagar railway station is the only A1-category railway station under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway ( SER). The footfall at the station is gradually on the rise because of increasing number of trains and also because of the fact that Tatanagar falls on the Howrah-Mumbai main line. Several important trains travel via Tatanagar, including the high-profile Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. The station sees a daily traffic of 90 mail, express and passenger trains, besides a footfall of more than 60,000 passengers.
