Failed in intermediate exam girl jumps from Yash Kamal complex, dies

Jamshedpur : A 17year-old girl student ended her life by jumping from the third floor of a shopping complex on Bistupur Main Road here on Sunday morning.

Shilpi Kumari who was a student of Jamshedpur Women’s College jumped after leaving a suicide note in which she has said that she was committing suicide as she failed in her intermediate examination. The result of the exam was declared on Saturday by the Jharkhand Academic Council.

According to information, the student sustained serious head injury was rushed to Tata Main Hospital but latter succumbed to death at the hospital. The incident took place at Yash Kamal, on the Bistupur Main Road.

The girl left suicide note in which she had written that she was leaving the world on her own wish and had prayed her parents to forgive her for this act.

As the news spread, officer-in-charge, Bistupur police station, Jitendra Kumar rushed to the spot. The suicidal note was discovered at the hospital only during the treatment. ” We have recovered the suicide note however, investigation is on,” said Kumar. One of the shopkeepers at the complex on the condition of anonymity said: “I heard a scream. when I turned around I found a girl lying in her blue jeans and white t-shirt flying in pool of blood,” said Singh who had been to the building for shopping.

Shilpi was originally was a resident of Chaibasa and was studying by staying at her maternal uncle’s house in Kadma.

Officials of suicide prevention centre, Jeevan said though the average of teen suicide in the country is about 5.6 per cent only but the same in our city is alarming. “In our study we have found that depression and rising pressure to perform is the prime reason for the rising suicides. While studying we have found that people who are depressed have higher tendency to commit suicide. So there is an urgent need to understand the problem and address it”, he noted.
