Jamshedpur: A 30-year-old woman, Rekha Verma, was arrested along with her husband Sushil Verma for stealing jewelries from her former land-lady in Gamharia in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on June 5.
The police also recovered all the jewelries worth over Rs 2.5 lakh from the house of Rekha at Satbahni area under Adityapur thana area.
Interestingly, an picture of Rekha Verma on Facebook, wearing some of the stolen jewelries noticed on July 16, had led the victim, Arti Devi to lodge an FIR with the Gamharia police station leading the police to arrest the accused today.
Revealing about the breakthrough, Seraikela sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Avinash Kumar said that Arti Devi (45) had planned a religious function at her home in Balrampur in Gamharia on June 6.
” As per our information, a day before the ceremony, Arti Devi had brought out the jewelries for wearing them during the function next morning. Rekha who used to stay at the victim’s house as a tenant earlier visited her house and saw the jewelries. The very next morning, Rekha visited Arti Devi’s house while the latter was taking bath.As Arti came out of the bathroom and wanted to wear the jewelries, they all were missing,” said Kumar.
The SDPO said though the jewelries were stolen, Arti Devi and her husband Satish Singh did not report to the police. They thought that the missing jewelries might have misplaced and will be found someday.
” However on July 16, Satish Singh who is an engineer and works at a private company, saw Rekha with his wife’s jewelries on the Facebook. He later showed the Facebook to his wife who immediately recognised them. The same day Arti Devi had lodged an FIR with the Gamharia thana. The police today picked up Rekha and her husband Sunil. On being interrogated, Rekha confessed that she had stolen the jewelries. Soon the police had arrested the couple,” said the SDPO while talking to the newsmen.
