Excise department arrests nine persons from dhabas in NH 33

Jamshedpur, April 9 : East Singhbhum unit of state excise department arrested nine persons after finding consumption of liquor at two of the dhabas.

The arrestings were made were Motel Ganga-Jamuna and Punjab Keshri Dhaba, both located at Bhilaipahadi along the NH-33. From the two dhabas, the Excise officials seized a carton of beer, two bottles of whisky and glasses.

The owner of Motel Ganga Jamuna , Raman Chandra Dutta was caught from the eatery, whereas Arab Singh, owner of the Punjab Keshri dhaba managed to flee.

Excise inspector Ranjan Tiwary said that they are keeping vigil on highway dhabas along the NH-33 at about 10 pm. They found most of the dhabas along the NH-33 were found lying closed, about half-dozen trucks were parked in front of the dhabas.

“When we entered into the dhabas we found a group of four people, all apparently drivers and cleaners were busy consuming liquor. The owner of the Punjab Keshri dhaba fled, leaving the customers in our net. At the adjoining Ganga Jamuna Motel, we arrested five persons surrounded by us and soon picked up,” said the Excise inspector.

He said they seized a carton load of beers bottles from Punjab Keshri and seized a whisky bottle from the Ganga Jamuna Motel.

All those arrested were brought to the Excise thana on Dhalbhum road in the night.

In the morning, eight of those arrested were released after they paid penalty to the tune of Rs 2,000 each. Dutta was forwarded to judicial custody in the afternoon.
