Jamshedpur : Under tight security arrangements the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were sealed at the strong room of Jamshedpur Co-operative College on Friday morning. With this the fate of 15 candidates in fray for Lok Sabha has been locked inside the room.
The room contains EVMs of all the Jamshedpur constituency areas.
Returning officer cum district commissioner Amitabh Kaushal along with senior administrative officials was present on thisoccasion. The deputy commissioner said that fool proof security arrangements have been made in and around the strong room.
Several armed policemen stand guard outside strong-room after it was sealed. Security personnel worked non-stop for 48 hours in naxal infested areas to ensure smooth and peaceful polling and transfer of EVMs at the strong room.
Under the strict security of paramilitary forces the EVMs were moved from the rural areas to the strong room. Officials deployed on election duty were on toes till late night.
The room would be opened only of the day of counting of votes that is scheduled on May 16.
Meanwhile, none of the candidates were present at the time the strong room was sealed. Every year candidates make in it a point to be present at the time of sealing of the room, however none could reach the venue this time.
