Eve-teasing leads to clash at Tuiladungri, Sikhs meet SSP to demand fair probe

Jamshedpur, April 11: Scores of Sikh community members on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the office of SSP Anoop T Mathew, protesting against highhandedness of Moolchand Sahu, the younger brother of Chief Minister Raghubar Das, and his supporters who had allegedly indulged in a clash yesterday at Tuiladungri under Golmuri Police Station area.

Led by the president of Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Inderjeet Singh, the members of the community, including women demanded action against Sahu and his supporters for allegedly assaulting Heera Singh (30), accused of eve-teasing, on Sunday night and subsequently attacking his house along with the houses of several other Sikh families residing near Tuiladungri Gurudawara late last night.

The senior SP, Anoop T Mathew promised the delegation that he would get the matter probed and that appropriate action will be taken. Later, the CGPC president declared that the Sikh community had given the SSP an ultimatum for 48 hours for taking action against Moolchand Sahu and others and that if the police fail to do so then they would launch an agitation against the local administration.

Tension gripped the densely-populated Tuiladungri area in Golmuri as there was an incident of stone-pelting at the house of the victim, who is the daughter of Moolchand, it triggered a fresh trouble. As a result of the stone-pelting by a section of people belonging to the Sikh community, Moolchand (father of the eve-teasing victim) allegedly thrashed several Sikhs residing in the same locality.

In this connection police registered a case under Sections 354 (C) and 354 (D) of IPC) against Heera Singh on the basis of the FIR lodged by the victim.

According to Sahu family, Heera used to make obscene gestures from the roof of his building aiming at the young woman whenever she would go up her double-storeyed building for drying clothes. For few days, the woman kept quiet on the act but as the accused used to do it often, she told her husband about it.

“As soon as I came to know about his act on Saturday I went over to his house and wanted to talk to him. But Heera’s mother did not allow me to meet him and pleaded he was out of home. On raising protest before the old woman, she said do not try to show political power. I told this matter to my father-in-law who got the victim to lodge a complaint with the Golmuri thana against Heera. On Sunday afternoon, Heera surrendered before the police,” said the victim’s husband.

But one of the kin of Heera Singh said “On Sunday night, Moolchand came along with his body-guards and supporters and made Heera to be taken out from the thana lock-up and thrashed him in the police station in presence of the OC, Arun Kumar Mahatha.
