Evaluators asked to follow step by step evaluation, mobile phones banned
Jamshedpur, March 28: The evaluation of matric and intermediate examinations started under strict vigil on Thursday. Evaluators of matric and intermediate examinations under the Jharkhand Academic Council ( JAC) seem to be extra cautious this time fearing strict punishment from the board.
The evaluation across the state started at 69 centres- 36 for matric and 33 for intermediate evaluation across 19 and 18 districts respectively.
In East Singhbhum, evaluation started in eight centresRajkiyakrit Jamshedpur BalikaUchchaVidyalaya (Sakchi) DBMS Girls High School, Kadma, BSSP High School (Sonari), and Saradamoni Girls High School, Sakchi for matriculation papers. BPM High School, Burmamines and ADL High School in KadmaSt. Joseph’s High School and Michael John High School in Golmuri have beenmade centres for evaluation of answer sheets.
The highest number of evaluation centres are in Ranchi- seven centres for matric and six centres for intermediate; Gumla, Giridih, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Palamu and Dumka have got two centres each while Hazaribagh have three centres for evaluation of matric. About 10,000 evaluators from across the state are involved in the task.
This year JAC have laid down strict directives on evaluators to follow step by step evaluation of an answer followed by re-totalling to ensure an error free system. Evaluators aren’t allowed to enter the centre with their mobile phones. JAC also organised a workshop for centre superintendents in Ranchi yesterday.
“We are trying our best and I have made it clear that we need to be student friendly. If we receive copies for re-scrutiny this time and we find mistakes in totalling, the evaluators will not be spared. For this we have introduced the rubber stamp so that we know which teacher is responsible for the same. Also we have asked evaluators to speak the double digit numbers because it is many times wrongly heard like 17 for 70. Here teachers have to read ‘seven’ ‘zero’,” said an official.
An official of JAC said that they are hopeful that the entire evaluation process to be completed by April 15 but they do expect some change since it is election time. The date of the results will depend on when the evaluation gets over.
With JAC taking steps in improving its standards, it has introduced a new method of scrutiny. An evaluator has to correct an answer sheet and crosscheck the totalling twice before it is fed in the computer. The most important part is that every evaluator has been given a rubber stamp which they have to use in every single copy they check. The stamp bears the name of the evaluator and the name of the college he/she belongs to.
