Environment friendly lubricants need of the hour: Anand Sen

Seminar on Major advances and Sustainable Developments in Lubrication Domain begins

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel in association with National Grease Lubricating Institute (NGLI) India Chapter and The Institution of Engineers inaugurated a two-day Seminar titled �All India Seminar on Major Advances and Sustainable Developments in Lubrication Domain� at the United Club, Jamshedpur this morning. The seminar will continue till September 14.

The inaugural session saw participation of 250 plus delegates at the marquee hall created for the event. Participants from diverse fields including steel plants, OEMs, academia attended the seminar.

The inaugural session was chaired by Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel who was the Chief Guest at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Sen dwelt on the need for academia and the lubricant industry to come up with environment friendly lubricants citing reference to the human body joints and lubricants as an ideal example of the same.
He further stressed upon the effectiveness of lubricants in industries particularly steel plants, this need emanating due to the scenario of high temperatures and dusty conditions.

Dr N K Pokhrial outlined the emerging trends, threats and opportunities in the lubrication domain and stressed upon the need to develop alternatives to cater to complex requirements with changing needs as well as environmental regulations.
Post this the stall and exhibition area was declared open by the Chief Guest and various companies earnestly show cased their products through interactive tools in their stalls.

On the first day presentations were shared by S C Nagar (Siddharth Grease & Lubes Pvt Ltd), Ronald Knecht (Quaker), Dr Veena Bansal (IOCL), M L Das (Balmer Lawrie), Sushant Kumar Roy (Balmer Lawrie), Nitin K M (Hydac), N. Mahadevan (Timken), Biswajeet (Lubrilog), Sudip Basu (Primetals), Kanchan Chatterjee (Bechem), K Vasudevan (Exxon Mobil) Dr Satish Kumar (Kluber), Kanchan Chatterjee (BECHEM), Prof Faisal Rahmani (BIT Mesra), Dr Chiranjit Sarkar (IIT Patna), Udey Dhir (Vas Tribo), Dilip Verma (Dantech), Subhojit Ghosal (Hard castle) K Ravi (Apar Industry limited), Sachin Kumbhar (JSW Dolvi), Vishal Parmar (Tata Steel), S Manjunath (Tata Steel), Anthony (Ametek Spectro), Jayanta Roy (AFMC), Uday Pawar (Ferrocare) and Karthik Radhakrishnan (Danielli).

The major themes covered during the first day of seminar included the use of fire resistant lubricants, health monitoring of lubrication systems, increasing re-lubrication intervals and advances in lubrication program management.

The sessions were moderated by Dr Balram Ghosh, VP Balmer Lawrie, Mr K C K Jeothy, DGM DSP SAIL, Dr Faisal Rahmani, BIT Mesra, Mr Jeetendra Vyas, AGM Bhushan Khopoli, Ms. Gayatri Paul, CSIR-CMERI Durgapur, Dr Chiranjeet Sarkar, IIT Patna, Dr Siddharth S Chakrabarti, O P Jindal, Mr Sanjay Kedia, Chief Mech Maint Tata Steel, Dr Veena Bansal, IOCL, Mr H S Singh, Sail Bokaro, Mr Shalendra Kumar, NIT Jamshedpur and Mr V K Nirala, Chief Mechanical Maint Tata Steel.

The dignitaries present included Avneesh Gupta, Vice President Shared Services, Tata Steel and Chairman of The Institution of Engineers, Dr. N K Pokhrial from NGLI, Probal Ghosh, Chief of Mechanical Maintenance, Tata Steel & Organising Secretary and Arun Kumar Jha, Head MED, Tata Steel & Chairman, Commodity Competency Team Lubrication.

Earlier, the Seminar began with a safety briefing of the site after which Probal Ghosh, welcomed the delegates on behalf of the organisers, followed by context setting by Avneesh Gupta. Mr Gupta set the benchmark expectation from the Lubricant community of reduction of specific lubricant consumption and spoke about the need for collaborative working among academia, industries and OEMs.
