Environment experts focus on achieving zero waste water discharge

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: Tata Steel is organising the 2nd Environment Operating Committee meeting for Iron and Steel Companies on January 8-9, 2014 at Beldih Club, Jamshedpur.

The theme for this year�s meeting is �Zero Waste Water Discharge.� Environment experts from the Iron and steel Companies such as SAIL, Vizag Steel, Essar, JSW, JSPL and Mecon participated in the meeting. Delegates shared with the audience, best practices and challenges towards achieving Zero Waste Water Discharge while the Secretary Report was presented by Mr. M Choubey, DGM & Head of Group Environment, RDCIS, SAIL.

The Environment Operating Committee as a concept was initiated by SAIL for Iron and Steel Companies. The committee meets once every year. Last year, SAIL organized the 1st Environment Operating committee meeting on theme �Solid Waste Utilization� at Research and Development Centre for Iron & Steel, Ranchi.

The Environment Operating Committee meeting was jointly inaugurated by Dr. NLNS Prasad, Director, Ministry of Environment and Forests and Chief Guest for the event, Suresh Kumar, Dy. VP, Shared Services, Tata Steel. Dr. D K Behera, Senior Scientist, OSPCB, Sundeep Kumar, Senior Scientist, CPCB, A K Saxena, Chairman State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), Jharkhand, Mr. S K Singh, Ex Member Secretary, JSPCB & Member SEAC, Jharkhand, S K Roy, Adviser to MD, Tata Steel, S Bhaskar, Chief Power System, Prof A K Gupta, IIT Kharagpur and J P N Singh, Chief, Fuel and Environment Management, Tata Steel shared their views on the subject.
