Jamshedpur, Jan. 28: As a part of community outreach program, the ENT department of Tata Motors Hospital conducted awareness sessions on Common ENT diseases in school-going children and their prevention in Hill Top School, Telco Colony, on January 27 and 28. More than 250 students interacted with Dr. Santosh Kumar, a specialist from the ENT department.

Dr. Santosh offered simple tips to children to keep their ears, nose and throat healthy and told them what needs to be done if one suffers from ailments related to these body parts.

He also emphasized on the importance on abeyance from tobacco from a tender age, as more and more number of students from schools tend to try these products on an experimental basis and also due to peer pressure and later to get addicted to tobacco products.

Dr. Shalabh Rastogi, Head, Department of ENT, Tata Motors Hospital, had started this endeavor to impart health education among children of different schools.

According to Dr. Rastogi, awareness and education are the only means to stay ahead of diseases and illness. He said there is little knowledge about ENT related diseases in the community, and consequently patients ignore these diseases or take treatment from non-specialist doctors.

He said most of the patients go to general physicians and other doctors before coming to ENT specialist when the damage had already been done.

He stressed on early diagnosis and timely intervention as the key for successful treatment of ENT related disorders.
