Jamshedpur: The Steel City is gearing up for the grand Tusu Fair, scheduled to be held on January 21 (Wednesday) at the Bistupur Gopal (Regal) Ground, with organizers announcing extensive security and management arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
Addressing a press conference at Sonari Vikas Bhawan, Astik Mahto, Chief Convener of the Jharkhand Vasi Ekta Manch, along with Convener and MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, said that the entire fair premises will be placed under CCTV surveillance, supported by drone monitoring. Large LED screens will also be installed near the main stage to provide better visibility to the large gathering expected at the venue.
The organizers have imposed a strict ban on the sale and consumption of intoxicants within the fair premises, warning that any violation will invite immediate and stringent administrative action.
Now in its 21st year, the Tusu Fair is one of the most prominent cultural events in the Kolhan region. This year’s celebrations will feature a giant Tusu idol, traditional Chaurdal (palanquin) displays, vibrant cultural programmes, and performances of Tusu and Jhumur folk songs. Participants are expected from across Jharkhand’s Kolhan belt, including Ranchi, Tamar and Khunti, as well as neighbouring West Bengal and Odisha.
Tusu idols and Chaurdals will be allowed entry into the ground from 10 am onwards. Last year, over 350 Tusu–Chaurdals took part in the fair, and organizers are anticipating an even larger participation this time. The official poster of the event was also released during the press briefing.
Cash prizes continue to be a major attraction. In the Tusu competition, seven prizes of ₹41,000, ₹35,000, ₹31,000, ₹25,000, ₹20,000, ₹15,000 and ₹11,000 will be awarded. The Chaurdal competition will feature four prizes of ₹31,000, ₹25,000, ₹21,000 and ₹15,000. Similarly, the Budhi Gadi dance competition will offer four prizes worth ₹15,000, ₹11,000, ₹7,000 and ₹5,000.
To ensure seamless execution, a dedicated team of volunteers has been deployed to manage entry gates, stage arrangements and jury coordination. Organizers expressed confidence that with coordinated efforts and enhanced security, this year’s Tusu Fair will be bigger, safer and more vibrant than ever.
