Encounter at Sonwa, Naxal arrested

Chaibasa : The security forces led by district police and CRPF had a fierce encounter with Maoists at Udalkham Bobonga in Sonwa police station area of West Singhbhum district on Tuesday. Several rounds of firing occurred on both sides. Subsequently, three rifles, cartridges and daily use material were recovered from the Naxalites in the search operation. Security forces have also arrested a Naxal.

 According to the information, police and CRPF personnel in the area were conducting search operations. Security forces had an encounter with the Naxalites associated with PLFI. The Naxalites fled into the thick forest after seeing the security forces falling heavily in the firing. Meanwhile, a Naxalite went up in arms. After getting the information of the encounter, West Singhbhum SP Indrajit Mahatha and several CRPF officials reached Sonwa.

A team of police and CRPF involved in the operation returned to Sonua on Monday late evening with the recovered weapons and belongings. The operation included CRPF 60 battalion officer Raju D Nayak, Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Anand Jha, Assistant Commandants Virendra Kumar, Pankaj Rai, Kuldeep Kumar along with armed forces personnel.
