Jamshedpur, July 7: In a bid to enhance public safety and emergency response, Jamshedpur Police conducted a live demonstration of the national Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) helpline number 112 on Sunday. Meanwhile, MGM Hospital continues to grapple with a non-functional ‘Moksha’ vehicle, causing inconvenience to those in need of mortuary services.

The Jamshedpur City Control Room (CCR) organized the demonstration to raise awareness about the centralized emergency helpline. CCR in-charge Anjani Kumar Tiwari explained that the 112 service, initiated by the Government of India, replaces multiple helpline numbers with a single, comprehensive emergency contact.

“Whether it’s related to police, administration, disaster, fire, or accidents, dialing 112 will provide immediate assistance,” Tiwari stated. He highlighted that the service is monitored at the central level, ensuring quick response times and efficient transfer of information to relevant departments. Tiwari urged city residents to utilize this service for prompt relief during emergencies.

In contrast to this streamlined emergency response system, MGM Hospital is facing criticism for its inability to repair a damaged ‘Moksha’ vehicle, used for transporting deceased patients. The vehicle was involved in a collision with a trailer in Seraikela over two weeks ago and has since remained non-operational.

Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Superintendent of MGM Hospital, expressed frustration with Furida Agency, the operator responsible for the Moksha vehicle. “If the ambulance is not repaired by the agency as soon as possible, action will be taken against them,” Dr. Kumar warned. He emphasized that according to their agreement, the agency is responsible for repairing the damaged vehicle.

The absence of this specialized vehicle has forced families to hire external ambulances at higher costs, adding financial burden during already difficult times. Dr. Kumar assured that the hospital administration is pressuring the agency to expedite repairs and restore this essential service.
