Gamharia: A wild elephant trampled a villager to death in Burudih panchayat of Gamharia block in Seraikela-Kharsawan on Monday. The deceased was identified as Duryodhan Singh Sardar. He had gone out to herd his oxen in the nearby fields when the elephant suddenly attacked him and killed him at the scene.
Irked over the incident, local residents put up a demonstration against forest department officials and demanded compensation for the next of kin of the deceased. They said the forest officials had done nothing to save the villagers from the pachyderm menace.
