Jamshedpur: A herd of four elephants that had been loitering in the Jadugora area for the past 48 hours, drawn by the aroma of ripening paddy crops, has now moved out from the Tilaitod main road and taken shelter in the Bango forest near Dhamdhoom.
The herd has remained inside the forest for the last 24 hours. The forest department has intensified monitoring efforts and deployed teams on a night-long vigil to track the movement of the elephants and prevent them from entering nearby villages.
Officials said they have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of villagers and avoid crop damage. Every year, elephant herds enter the Jadugora region via Harina from Odisha, often causing damage to standing paddy crops.
However, due to timely action by the forest department, no reports of crop loss have been received so far this year. Despite this, the presence of elephants has created fear among local residents, who remain alert and cautious.
Jadugora forest department’s sub-beat officer Arun Kumar stated that teams are camping in the Bango forest throughout the night and making sustained efforts to guide the herd back towards Harina safely. District administration authorities have appealed to villagers to stay indoors at night and cooperate with forest officials until the situation normalizes.
