Elephant herd returns to Jadugora forest, villagers on edge

Jamshedpur: A herd of four wild elephants, drawn by the aroma of ripe paddy crops, has returned to the Rajdoha forest area of Jadugora after creating disturbances in nearby villages. The elephants had been roaming the region for five days and reportedly caused damage in Swargachhida village before retreating to the forest.

The renewed movement of the herd in and around the Jadugora region has triggered fear among the local residents, who remain anxious about further crop damage and potential human-elephant conflict.

Confirming the developments, Arun Kumar, Sub-Beat Officer of the Jadugora Forest Division, said that the elephant group entered Swargachhida village under the Shankarda Panchayat and consumed paddy crops belonging to two farmers. After the incident, the herd moved back and took shelter in the Jadughutu forest area under the Jadugora police station area.

The forest department has stepped up vigilance and is closely monitoring the situation. Officials have assured villagers that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure public safety and to prevent any untoward incidents.
