Electricity Dept workers in Saraikela to strike work from Sept 21

Saraikela, Sept 10: Electricity department workers under the banner of Jharkhand Rajya Bijli Kamgaar Union (JRBKU) will go no a tools down, pen down strike from September 21 to press for their long standing demand. The members stated that since the past two months the department�s Executive Engineer had been giving assurances of looking into their demands but was just neglecting them. Being fed up with such assurances, the workers said that they had ultimately decided to strike work from September 21.

JRBKU general secretary KN Singh said that the workers had been given assignments during the corona period without the basic needs being met and in spite of pressing the officials, no positive steps had been taken to ameliorate the demands. The electricity department workers, led by KN singh today held a demonstration at the JIADA where the Executive Engineer�s office is situated and pressed for their demands. Singh said that the departmental workers were being made to perform duties without adequate protective measures thereby putting them to major risks. The JRBKU general secretary said, �We are working in COVID infected zones without any protective gear being provided. We have not been provided masks, gloves and other protective kits. We are helplessly pursuing our work on the face of grave risks. But the management has continued to turn a blind eye to our demands. So, finding no other alternative, we have been forced to resort to pen down, tool down strike commencing from September 21.�

The strike will adversely affect the state exchequer and power supply.
