Jamshedpur: A tragic incident occurred in the Indranagar Basti of Bhalubasa, under the Sitaramdera police station area, where an 85-year-old woman, Shobha Mukherjee, lost her life in a massive fire caused by a short circuit late last night. The heartbreaking incident is reported to have taken place between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM. The fire spread so rapidly that the elderly woman could not be rescued in time.
The deceased’s daughter, Shobhana Mukherjee, shared that after having dinner as usual, her mother had gone to sleep in her room while other family members were asleep in their respective rooms. Late at night, a fire suddenly broke out in one part of the house. By the time the family and neighbors realized what was happening and rushed to help, the blaze had taken a formidable form, trapping Shobha Mukherjee inside. The flames were so intense that it became impossible to pull her out, resulting in her death on the spot.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Sitaramdera police arrived at the scene immediately. The police took custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the matter has been initiated. While preliminary findings suggest a short circuit as the cause of the fire, the police are exploring all possible angles. Local residents showed great promptness and managed to control the fire after significant effort. While part of the household property was reduced to ashes, the entire Indranagar Basti is in a state of mourning following the tragic demise of the elderly woman.
