Efforts to provide local employment for skilled youth in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal was held in the Collectorate Auditorium, Jamshedpur. The progress of various departmental schemes under the Labour, Employment, Training, and Skill Development Department was evaluated. Project Director ITDA Deepankar Choudhary, along with departmental officials and training partners, attended the meeting.

The review focused on the operational skill centers in the district, the trades offered, the number of enrolled trainees, and their placement percentages. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities within the district for its skilled youth. He directed officials to understand the demands of private companies located in East Singhbhum and neighboring districts and train the youth accordingly. Additionally, he stressed maintaining continuous contact with industries in other states to facilitate placements for trained candidates.

Currently, 17 skill development centers are operational in the district. During 2023-24, out of 9270 students enrolled in 10 operational skill centers, 5937 were placed successfully. Training under schemes like the Birsa Yojana includes Self-Employed Tailor and Domestic Data Entry Operator. Similarly, the Saksham Jharkhand Skill Development Program offers courses like Multi-Skilled Technician and Beauty Therapist, while the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Skill Centers provide training in Sampling Tailor, Electrician, CNC Operator, GDA, and others. These are executed through 17 centers associated with various training partners, including five under the Birsa Yojana, nine under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Skill Centers, and three under the Saksham Jharkhand Skill Development Program.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the registration status of laborers under the Labour Department. He instructed officials to coordinate with the District Panchayat Raj Officer and BDOs to collect data on migrant laborers through Panchayat representatives and ensure their registration. The state government has several ambitious schemes for laborers, including pension schemes, medical reimbursement, funeral assistance, orphan pension, scholarships, tool assistance, and bicycle assistance. He directed the organization of job fairs and extensive promotion of departmental schemes to ensure maximum beneficiaries avail of government benefits.
