Jamshedpur, March 20: The district education authorities in Jamshedpur have taken a firm stand against the alleged collection of unauthorized “Building Fund” charges by Little Flower School, Telco. The District Superintendent of Education (East Singhbhum) has issued a formal notice to the school management and Principal Sister Hilda D’Souza, seeking a detailed explanation within three days.
The action follows a complaint filed by BJP leader and education rights activist Ankit Anand, who alleged that the school was collecting Rs 1,000 per month from each student and an additional Rs 12,000 at the time of new admissions. The complaint termed these charges as “capitation fees,” which are strictly prohibited under Section 13 of the Right to Education Act, 2009.
In its directive, the education department clearly stated that no school is permitted to increase fees beyond 10% without prior approval from the District Fee Committee. It further ordered an immediate halt to the collection of such charges and instructed the school to adjust any amount already collected against future fees.
The notice also carries a warning that failure to comply with the directives will invite strict action under the provisions of the Right to Education Act and the Jharkhand Education Tribunal Act, 2017.
Welcoming the swift response, Ankit Anand expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and the education department officials, asserting that firm action against the school management is essential to prevent the exploitation and financial burden on parents.
