Female Literacy Drive Programme-2019 kicks off at NML

Jamshedpur: The three-Months Female Literacy Drive Programme-2019organised by Central Board For Workers Education (Ministry of Labour& Employment, Govt. of India) in association with CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory kicked off today at CSIR-NML Lecture Hall.

ShubhraDwivedy, SEEDS NGO, XLRI, Jamshedpur, I. Chattoraj, Director, CSIR-NML, Jamshedpur, Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director In-charge, CBWE, R. K. Gope, Education Officer, CBWE, D. Chattoraj, and Dr. M. Malathi, Scientist, CSIR-NML were present during the inaugural function.

Around 30 female illiterate casual/contractors workers who are working in different divisions and centres of CSIR-NML participated in the programme.

The objective of this literacy drive program is to (i) to promote literacy among the illiterate and low profile female workers of NML to play their role effectively in organization and in their daily life, (ii) to sensitize the female workers about negative effects of social problems like alcoholism, indebtedness and absenteeism, (iii) to motivate the female workers for adopting the quality in daily life to develop quality consciousness among them, (iv) to motivate the female workers for developing the practice of making family budget and improving the habits of savings for better future and (v) to change the mindset of illiterate female workers for their self-development, betterment of individual, family, society as well as organization.

Dr. IndranilChattoraj, welcome the delegates who attended the inaugural programme and he individually praised all tutors for their efforts and wholehearted support for organizing this program.

While inaugural addressed, Chief Guest, Mrs. ShubhraDwivedy appreciated CSIR-NML India for organising the literacy programme. She emphasized on the fact that this enthusiasm to learn should continue even after the three months of classroom study which has been planned for. She cited encouraging examples stating that age should not be a bar when it comes to literacy. She praised the tutors who are willing to teach and asked them in particular to be motivational while teaching, considering that these ladies do bring in lot of experience and understanding unlike a kid. Hence, the teaching strategy should be more inspirational.

Sanjay Kumar, Regional Director In-charge, CBWE, JSR gave away a lecture on the importance of programme and Women Empowerment. He emphasized on eradication of illiteracy in women from Indian Society for true development of the country siting an example he said that women�s role in the family is that of a thumb in our hand, without the thumb the rest of the hand is non-functional. Female Literacy Drive will play a key role for socio economic progress. Specially in the era of Digitization, it is important to be educated to complete the bare necessities in our daily life existence. For ex. Bank, Post office etc.
