EC, BJP are like Bunty and Babli pair: JMM

Ranchi, October 16: As Jharkhand assembly polls is shaping up as a direct contest between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA bloc and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), although both coalitions are yet to finalise seat-sharing arrangements, fresh charges were levelled against Election Commission (EC).

JMM central general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya, raised question on EC claims for “level playing field” for all parties by questioning, why no-fly zone is declared as soon as the star campaigners of BJP arrive.

“However, no-fly zone is declared on the arrival of star campaigners of the opposite party,” said Bhattacharya.

Supriyo claimed that the dream of Assam chief minister who is also BJP Jharkhand election co-incharge, Himanta Vishwa Sarma to win Jharkhand will not be fulfilled.

Describing the Election Commission and BJP as the pair of Babli and Bunty, Supriyo Bhattacharya claimed that he was not unaware of the tricks of the Election Commission.

“They had expressed their doubts before the Election Commission and today those doubts have been proved true. There is a big political game behind conducting elections in Jharkhand in two phases. Its purpose is to give time for the Prime Minister’s rallies,” alleged Bhattacharya while addressing media at Ranchi on Wednesday.

Raising the issue of Mandu, Ramgarh, Khijri and Silli seat, Supriyo Bhatta claimed that while elections are being held in one assembly, the purpose is to strangle the justice by giving an opportunity to Prime Minister Modi to campaign in the adjacent assembly and influence outcome in the nearby districts.

“Election Commission has also joined in this game of BJP. This step of the Election Commission is a big question mark on the transparency of the Election Commission,” alleged Bhattacharya.

In 2019, the JMM, Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) formed a pre-poll alliance, then known as the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), and wrested power from the BJP-led NDA government headed by Raghubar Das. The alliance secured a majority of 47 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.

The BJP had then parted ways with ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) but the two tied up in the aftermath, and fought the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, where they secured nine seats in the state, with BJP winning eight of them.

However, this time BJP will be contesting along with allies Ajsu, JD-U and other alliance partners.
