EC announces holiday on polling day

Ranchi: The second phase polling day, 17th April, will be a holiday in the state. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Election Commission of India.

The order for observing holiday will be effective for all government and private offices and enterprises. No deduction of salary or daily wage will be allowed on account of absence of the employee against the holiday declared by the EC, sources said.

Emergency services wherein absence of employees could be dangerous or which could lead to major loss have been exempted from the implementation of the order, the order said.

Paid leave will be granted to casual labourers on the day of polling.
