6th and 8th seeds failed to live up to the expectations in the pre quarter finals
Jamshedpur: Top seeds had an easy outing in the pre quarter finals of the ongoing Beldih Club AITA Men’s National Ranking 50K Tennis Championship 2017, been held at the courts of Beldih Club and United Club in Northern Town, Bistupur on Tuesday.
Top seeded Taha Kapadia of Telengana thrashed Preston Vaz of Maharashtra by a humiliating 6-0, 6-0 to enter the quarter finals.
Bengal’s 2nd seeded Rohit Rampuria and 3rd seeded Abhinansu Borthakur did not falter in the pre quarter finals as both refused to drop a set en route to the quarter finals. Rohit Rampuria defeated Bihar’s Roshan Kumar in straight sets 6-2,6-2 while Abhinansu Borthakur also of West Bengal beat Umar Shaikh of Andhra Pradesh by 6-1, 6-1.
Fourth seeded Arghya Das of West Bengal had it easy against his state counterpart Rishabh Shah defeating the latter by 6-0, 6-2. Shubham Malhotra the fifth seeded from Delhi beat Ayush Mintri of Punjab 6-4, 6-4 to enter the quarter finals.
But the 6th and 8th seeds failed to live up to the expectations in the pre quarter finals.
Unseeded Neeraj Choudhary of Bengal drowned the 6th seeded Varun Tiwari from Chattisgarh by a straight 6-0, 7-5 in the men’s single category.
On a similar note, 8th seeded Vashu Gupta of Uttar Pradesh went down against Rajasthan’s Arpit Sharma by a clean 3-6, 1-6.
In other matches played on Tuesday, 7th seeded Hemant Kumar of Delhi beat Umang Jhunjhunwala of Gujarat by 6-3, 6-3 to enter the quarter finals.
Quarter final round matches of men’s single and men’s double will be played on Wednesday, November 15 at the Beldih Club.
Finals of both the men’s open singles and men’s open doubles will be held on Friday, November 17.
