Jamshedpur: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Karn Satyarthi ordered immediate corrective measures on Saturday after 63 home deliveries were reported in the district. Presiding over a health department review at the Collectorate Auditorium, the DC demanded 100 percent institutional deliveries and strict accountability from medical officers.
Key Directives and System Fixes
-
Maternal & Newborn Health: The DC directed the Medical Officers-in-Charge (MOICs) of Boram and Dumaria to conduct detailed case studies on every home delivery. He also ordered a probe into the deaths of 11 newborns at Ghatshila Hospital’s Infant Care Unit to identify and fix systemic triggers.
-
Emergency Transport: Satyarthi instructed officials to coordinate with Panchayat representatives and Block Development Officers to ensure Mamta Vahan ambulances are available in every corner of the district, specifically targeting Banmakri Panchayat.
-
Malnutrition & Immunization: After flagging low bed occupancy at Malnutrition Treatment Centers (MTCs) in areas like Baharagora and Telco, the DC ordered better counseling and staff deployment. He also demanded 100 percent immunization coverage, with a sharp focus on the Jugsalai block.
-
Special Projects: Under Project Ullas, the health department must organize regular camps and awareness drives to identify and treat epilepsy patients.
Zero Tolerance for Negligence
The DC raised alarms over low sex ratio figures in Patamda and Ghatshila, ordering immediate inspections of ultrasound centers and nursing homes. He warned that the administration will take strict legal action against illegal practitioners and will not tolerate negligence from health personnel.
“Health schemes must be transparent, accessible, and reach the last beneficiary,” Satyarthi emphasized, noting that functional units like the dialysis centers at Sadar and Ghatshila hospitals must maintain zero downtime.
