Earthquake shakes Jamshedpur, no casualty

Jamshedpur, April 25: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook Jamshedpur and parts of Jharkhand on Saturday morning.

It caused panic among people as the first tremor lasting for around 25 seconds frightened people who ran out of hospitals, collages, apartments, shopping malls and residential buildings to gather in the open but there were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

�I was inside my office in Super Centre, Sakchi when computers started to tremble. Other colleagues in the office felt the jolt and we rushed out of the Mall�, said Parvinder Bhatia, a journalist.

Bank of India employee Madhusudhan Sarkar said, �As it was half day we were trying to complete the work at the earliest and as soon as the office boy brought cup of tea it started shaking, horrified we rushed out of the bank situated in Sakchi�.

Glass window of several houses and shops cracked in Jamshedpur and Ranchi while several walls of the building cracked in the state capital.

The quake, with its epicentre in Nepal, was felt at Dumka, Pakur, Sahibganj, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and other places at around 11.40 am. People in some places rushed out of their houses in panic, officials said.
