Jamshedpur : Drunken revelers and eve teasers during festive fervor of Durga Puja would face penalty this time.
East Singhbhum district administration armed with breathalysers would be carrying out special drive from last week of September till the puja festivity is completed to nail youths indulging in drunken driving on roads.
This would be the second such instance of breathalysers pressed into service against drunken elements in city.
To ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, district administration is taking unprecedented measures to tackle eve teasing. According to information besides posting of policemen in uniform, security men will also be posted in plain clothes in crowded areas to check teasing and other crimes. Women constables in plain clothes would also be deployed to check teasing.
Police officials informed that they have identified places where women could be more vulnerable to such behaviour and extra force has been deployed at such points. Surprise checks would be carried out at places where hooligans are likely to gather and harass passers-by.
Special instructions in the form of dos and don�t have been issued to all puja organisers. Puja committees have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras.
Meanwhile sources informed that the district police would also rope in 600 police personnel from different districts to ensure proper security arrangements. Special task force men, armed with binoculars and sophisticated weapons, will be posted atop during the festive week.
Officials of East Singhbhum district said that the special drive against drunken driving would be carried out jointly by district excise department and district traffic police.
First time offenders would be fined Rs 1000 while second time offenders would have to pay double the amount (Rs 2000) and third time offenders would face jail term (minimum of three months).
Underage individuals found drunk during festivity would not only be fined but would be handed over only in the custody of their guardians.
�All the police stations would be instructed to set up special patrolling to nab eve-teasers and youths found loitering near educational institutions and other public places without any valid reasons and initiate proceeding of entering their name in �goonda register�,� the ADM law and order said.
