Jamshedpur: Hundreds of children of Swargchhida Upgraded School in the extremism-hit Dumaria block took to the streets on Monday to protest the proposed merger of the school with a school half kilometer away. They sat on the Dumaria-Gudabandha main road along with their parents and local residents to demand revocation of the merger plan. A large number of women were also present during the demonstration.
Sources said the students and their mothers blocked the road from 7 am onwards for hours protesting the merger plan. The agitating children held placards with slogans denouncing the education department for planning merger of government schools having low student turnout. They asked the government not to shut down schools in the name of merger.
Local residents said the Swargchhida Upgraded School had been merged with Dumaria Primary School. There are 73 children enrolled in Swargchhida Upgraded School.
