Dry north-westerly winds continue to plummet minimum temperatures

Jamshedpur : Weathermen have said that the plummeting minimum temperature in the city is due to the dominating dry north-westerly winds and low humidity levels, both during the day and the night.

The dry north wind due to the impact of an anti-cyclonic circulation is preventing moisture incursion into the atmosphere. The chill is here to stay for another 48- hours , said D. G Hedau, a senior Met official at MID’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

While minimum temperatures in several parts of the state nosedived three to four degrees, Jamshedpur witnessed a sharp drop of three degrees in the last 24 hours. The local IMD observatory in Jamshedpur on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degree Celsius, three notches below normal. On Saturday, Jamshedpur’s reading was 12.3 degree Celsius.

Bokaro went numb at 9.6 degree Celsius, three points below normal. On Saturday Bokaro had been warmer at 11.7 degree Celsius. In Ranchi too the minimum temperature witnessed a drop. Against yesterday’s 13.5 degree Celsius, the IMD center in capital today recorded a minimum temperature of 12.1 degree Celsius.

Night readings plunged in several other districts, including Koderma, Deoghar, Hazaribagh, Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Ramgarh and Simdega.

It may be mentioned that Jamshedpur is witnessing a change in temperature. I have been coming to the city from past ten years. I have witnessed that weather has changed a lot. Earlier October end used to make people shiver but now in mid January people hardly require woollen clothes, said Yeshi a trader at Tibet Market.

Our quality of the woollen clothes is guaranteed and people have been coming here for a long time. Their goodwill is known to all as we have something new every year people look forward to us. However due to recession and warmer climate our market has witnessed dip in footfalls this season, said Sangay, one of the sellers.

Members have come from Bangalore, parts of South India, Himachal Pradesh, Uttranchal and Odisha. The number of members who come for doing business is decided last year itself. There is no contact in between and once a decision is taken, it is not revoked.

Among the winter stock this year, jackets is the rage of the season. Leather jackets in different designs have been put for sale. The stuff is not only good but the price is also very competitive and affordable by all.
