Drone and CCTV cameras to keep vigil on Chhath celebrations

Jamshedpur, Nov. 2: Following suggestions of the Chief Minister Raghubar Das, special security arrangements are being made to ensure safety during Chhath.

A three-tier security arrangement has been made for Jamshedpur under which all the ghats would be under surveillance to monitor any dangerous or criminal activity. Besides, the deployment of 1,000 cops, metal detectors will also be used at the ‘sensitive’ ghats to keep the criminals at bay, said an official.

Plain-clothed policemen at the ghats and security officials on boats would be monitoring the situation from the river as experts divers would be nearby in case of any drowning incident.

The Sidhgora-based Surya Mandir Committee, alone will be deploying a drone and install over 40 CCTV cameras for security at the artificial water reservoir used as chhath ghat by over 20,000 devotees and offer free those fruits used in chhath prasad’s to needy persons.

Working president of the committee, Kamlesh Singh said that the Chief Minister who was in city earlier this week had gave instructions not to compromise on security of devotees and also enable even the poorest to perform puja.

�Chhath is the most famous festival for us and every year thousands of devotees come here to perform rituals. The chief minister, who is our chief patron, has guided us.

We have decided to use a drone for aerial surveillance and also install over 40 CCTV cameras at strategic locations at the Surya Mandir premises and near the chhath ghat and the footages of which would be monitored by police as well as our volunteers at the temporary control room to be set up at the temple,� said Singh.

On a social note, the committee has already made arrangement to offer fruits used as chhath puja products free of cost to over 250 needy persons.

�Earlier years we used to offer puja samagris at subsidised rate for those who were financially weak. Which will be done this year too. However, on advice of Chief Minister from this year we will be providing fruits used as chhath prasad free to those who cannot afford it.

They will be issued coupons which will be distributed at the temple premises from tomorrow. The fruits can be collected from the temple premises after showing coupons,� said Singh.

Meanwhile, the star attraction will be the two-hour performance of illustrious Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan on November 6 evening.

Parking lots will also be made in consultation with traffic police both during evening argha (November 6 evening) and morning argha (November 7 early morning) near the temple premises.

Sadhna Sinha, Devi, Anuradha Paudwal, Malini Awasthi and Tripti Shakya the great artists have performed at art Chhath puja.

In the light of devotees traditionally offering prayers to the Sun god dipping into the river the administration has resolved to identify safe places (Chhat ghats) for offering prayers at the two rivers. Besides, the administration has decided to depute divers and life jackets in adequate strength at Chhat ghats.
